What does it mean to file suit, and why do we do it in a personal injury case?
Filing suit means presenting a formal document called a Petition or Complaint with a court that initiates a lawsuit. In the petition, the Plaintiff (person filing the petition) alleges a Cause of Action against a Defendant for which they seek economic relief. In a personal injury case, the plaintiff will allege that the defendant did something that caused their injuries.
