REAR-ENDED BY DRUNK DRIVER ON BURNET ROAD IN AUSTIN, TEXAS

While on her way to meet friends for dinner after finishing her working day, L.G. merged into the center turn lane on Burnet Road with the intention of turning left onto Cullen Avenue. L.G. had come to a complete stop and was sitting in the center lane with her left-hand blinker on as she waited for oncoming traffic to pass so that she could safely make her left turn.

At the same time, another car was traveling southbound on Burnet Road, directly behind our client’s vehicle. As our client waited to make her turn, the car behind her failed to control their speed, did not apply their brakes in time, and slammed into the rear of L.G’s vehicle.

Following the collision, the Officer that responded to the incident noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the person at fault as well as slurred speech and issues with balance. A breath test revealed that the driver at fault had a blood alcohol content of nearly three times the legal limit. The Officer placed the defendant under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).

It was concluded that the defendant’s alcohol consumption was the cause of the collision.
