California Natural Gas Pipeline Explodes, Kills 4
A natural gas pipeline exploded on Thursday in San Bruno, a town near San Francisco. Over 50 people were injured, some with serious burns, and at least 4 people were killed in the explosion. Some people are still missing. In addition, more than 50 homes were destroyed in the fire. Another 120 were damaged.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known. Pacific Gas & Electric, the owner of the pipeline, has since stated that the pipe was inspected last year and they are unsure of the cause.
Firefighters have been commended for their work controlling the huge blaze. At one point, some of the flames were up to 300 feet high. Some residents may be able to return to their homes on Sunday. Those who lived closest to the blast, however, will remain displaced for a longer time.
