City May Reconsider Bike Lane Funding after Serious Accident
While many cities are working to make upgrades for bicyclists on roadways, some cities just do not have the funding. One such city in North Texas is now under scrutiny after a male bicyclist suffered serious injuries on a bridge that was slated to be renovated this year. According to the police report, D.T., 32, was riding his bicycle like he does every day on the bridge. He is a regular bicyclist who rides at least 40 miles around the city daily. On this day, however, he was struck by a vehicle on a viaduct in the southbound lanes. His wife reports that he sustained a broken neck after he was thrown into the windshield of the vehicle that hit him.
While doctors hope that he is able to make a full recovery, it will be a long and difficult process. Now that this accident has made front page news, the city may reconsider funding for bike lanes so bicyclists remain safe from motorists. Were you hit while riding your bike in Dallas?
