How Long Do I Have to File My Personal Injury Case?

This is dependent on the circumstance. There is a law called a statute of limitations and in most personal injury cases, you have two years from the accident to file your lawsuit. However, there are a lot of exceptions. For example, the rules are different if you are suing the government or if it's a UIM case (Uninsured Motors Coverage- a provision of your own insurance).

You definitely need to consult an attorney to determine the statute of limitations for your specific circumstances.  This doesn’t mean you have to necessarily resolve your case before the time limit expires- you just need to file the lawsuit within the time frame in order to protect yourself and make sure that your case doesn't go away forever. So if the statute of limitations is two years and after a year or 364 days, you file a suit, well then you're ok even if you take two more years to settle your case. However if you wait till the 2-year and 5 day mark to file your case, you will likely lose the opportunity to get any money for your damages.
