Stopped Arlington Train Hit by Suspected DUI Driver
At around midnight Wednesday morning, a woman driving an SUV drove straight into a train that was stopped on the tracks in Arlington. Although the crossing barrier was down, the woman drove onto the other side of the street and thus was not stopped by a crossing barrier.
There are no reports of injuries in the train, but the woman sustained injuries and was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital. It is unknown how serious her injuries are but she is not in critical condition.
Previously to striking the train, the woman had hit a curb and caused damage to her car. She kept driving despite the damage to her wheel and suspension.
Investigators who arrived at the scene have stated that they believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Had anyone been injured or killed, the woman would have been held liable for their injuries and costs associated with the accident. Driving under the influence is considered a negligent action.
