What should I do right after a car accident?

Last updated on: July 15, 2014

If you are involved in a car accident, you should always call the police and wait for an officer to respond to the scene.  Insist that the officer complete a written report.  Take photos of the property damage to all vehicles involved.  If you are injured, seek medical attention immediately.  This often means taking the ambulance that responds to the scene of the incident.  You should never speak to insurance companies until you have had a chance to consult with an attorney.  Any statement you give to an insurance company could be used as evidence in any future litigation involving the wreck, so you want to minimize your communications prior to receiving legal advice.
