Texas Defective Drug Attorneys Provide An Overview of the Side Effects of Xarelto

Prescription drug Xarelto (rivoroxaban) is a blood thinner manufactured by Bayer and marketed by a division of Johnson & Johnson.  This drug was intended to provide an alternative to the drug Warfarin, which also prevents blood clots and comes with many food and drug interactions.

While intended to be a safer alternative, Xarelto has turned out to be a highly dangerous drug.  The number of serious side effects linked to Xarelto continues to grow, and the full impact of this drug has yet to be seen.

A Drug without An Antidote

The most severe side effect associated with the use of Xarelto is fatal hemorrhaging or internal bleeding.  When a patient on Xarelto starts to bleed, from even a minor injury such as a cut on the hand, there is virtually no way to stop the bleeding.

The reason for this reaction stems from the inherent mechanism found in the drug.  Coagulation of the blood is dependent on the action of Vitamin K, which is naturally found in leafy greens and other vegetables.

Vitamin K leads to the production of clotting agent thrombin.  The drug Warfarin disables Vitamin K to avoid clots, which means that in the event of a bleed, Vitamin K can be administered in high doses to stop it.  Xarelto, on the other hand, prevents the production of Vitamin K whatsoever.  Accordingly, once a patient starts to bleed, there is virtually no way to stop it.

You May Be Entitled to Compensation

Anyone who has experienced an injury due to Xarelto should consult a licensed attorney as soon as possible to explore their legal options.  Those injured by this drug may be entitled to compensation.   There are currently a number of lawsuits being lodged against the makers and marketers of the drug Xarelto.

These lawsuits allege that Bayer knew of the risks associated with the drug, yet put it on the market anyway without adequately warning patients as to the potentially deadly side effects they faced.  No matter the extent of your injuries, you should consult with an Xarelto attorney to determine if you may be eligible to join a class action suit.
