Personal Injury Protection (“PIP”) coverage is optional, voluntary coverage that provides benefits for insureds injured in motor vehicle collisions.  PIP covers medical bills and lost wages up to the applicable policy limits.  It is “no fault” insurance, meaning you can receive policy benefits under the coverage even if you caused the collision.  All drivers should carry Personal Injury Protection (“PIP”) coverage because premiums for it are low and the underwriter does not have a right of subrogation, meaning that you do not have to repay the PIP benefits if you recover money from another insurance company for the same incident.
